Joshua Rupley was the only American in the inaugural Olga Kern International Piano Competition in November, 2016. He thrilled the audience and jury in the first two rounds, advancing to the finals and performing Beethoven’s third piano concerto in C minor, Op. 37 with the New Mexico Philharmonic, the orchestra with which he performed as their very first concerto soloist in 2011. He won the fourth prize and was invited to perform with the Philharmonic once again exactly a year later, this time with Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto, Op. 73 under the baton of Christopher Confessore.
